Built for Cafes
The Machine That Trained a Generation of Baristas
Every espresso program eventually comes down to one question: can the machine hold its temperature and its composure when the line is out the door? The La Marzocco Linea Classic S has been answering that question for cafes, roasteries, and multi-unit chains for more than three decades, and the current S generation adds dual PID temperature control, a half-turn steam valve, and Pro App connectivity without losing the mechanical simplicity that made the first Linea a category standard.
Dual Boilers
Separate insulated boilers for brewing and steaming, so neither one competes for heat.
Saturated Groups
Groupheads stay at brewing temperature for consistent, repeatable extractions.
Dual PID Control
Electronic temperature control on both boilers, dialed in and held all shift long.
Authorized Dealer
Official La Marzocco authorized dealer. Full warranty support included.

The Machine
What Makes the Linea Classic S a Cafe Standard
Released in 1989, the first Linea Classic became one of the best-selling commercial espresso machines in the world and helped define the visual language of modern coffee bars: the boxy stainless steel body, the exposed group heads, the row of volumetric buttons. Many of La Marzocco's later machines, including the Linea PB and KB90, are direct descendants of this design.
The current Linea Classic S maintains that reserved, reliable, and consistent identity while modernizing the parts that matter most to a busy bar. Dual PID replaces older mechanical thermostats with electronic temperature control on both the coffee and steam boilers; the steam valve now opens fully in a half turn instead of a full rotation, and solid-state electronics replace older limited-lifespan electromechanical controls. See the full specifications on La Marzocco's official Linea Classic S page ↗.
"The result is a machine that is easier on baristas' wrists, easier to keep dialed in, and just as easy to service as the machine cafes have trusted for a generation."

Sizing & Configuration
Choosing the Right Group Count and Operation
If you are unsure which configuration fits your projected daily cup count, Bean and Brew Technologies can walk through your layout and volume expectations and recommend the right group count before you order.
| Group Count | Best For |
|---|---|
| 1 Group | Small offices, boutique retail counters, or a secondary bar. Compact footprint at 20 inches wide. |
| 2 Group | The most common configuration for independent cafes. Room for two baristas during a rush. |
| 3 Group | High-volume cafes, drive-thru operations, or long peak-hour lines with multiple baristas. |
AV or EE: Which Configuration Fits Your Bar
This is one of the most common questions we get from cafe owners planning a build-out, and the honest answer is that it comes down to workflow, not quality. Both versions use identical dual boilers, saturated groups, and dual PID temperature control, so neither one is the higher-performing machine. The difference is entirely in how a shot is started and stopped.
Choose AV If…
You run a high-volume bar with multiple baristas, want programmed shot volumes for steady quality across shifts, and want to free up a barista to steam milk while a shot pulls automatically.
Choose EE If…
Your team values hands-on control over every extraction, you change beans frequently and want to adjust on the fly, or you're running a training-focused program.
Comparison
Linea Classic S vs Linea PB: How to Decide
Cafe owners comparing La Marzocco machines often land on the Linea Classic S and the Linea PB, its more advanced sibling. Both share the same DNA: dual-insulated boilers, saturated groups, and PID temperature control. The Linea PB adds a digital display, La Marzocco's Piero Group Cap flow meter for more precise volumetric dosing, Auto Brew Ratio programming, and Eco Mode for reduced standby energy use. Visually, the Linea PB carries a mirror finish, whereas the Linea Classic S maintains a brushed stainless look.
For most independent cafes and growing multi-unit operators, the Linea Classic S delivers the same shot quality and thermal stability, with lower up-front and long-term cost of ownership thanks to its simpler internals. Cafes that want built-in digital dosing precision, standby energy programs, or plan to run a large multi-barista bar with tighter shot-to-shot data tracking may prefer to step up to the Linea PB. Either way, both machines are backed by the same Bean and Brew Technologies installation, warranty, and factory-trained service team.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How many groups does the La Marzocco Linea Classic S come in?
The Linea Classic S is available in 1-, 2-, or 3-group configurations, so it can be sized for anything from a small office or boutique counter up to a high-volume cafe with multiple baristas pulling shots at once.
What is the difference between the AV and EE versions?
The AV (Auto-Volumetric) version lets you program exact shot volumes for consistent, repeatable pours at the push of a button. The EE (Semi-Automatic) version requires the operator to manually start and stop each shot, giving more hands-on control over extraction.
How much does a La Marzocco Linea Classic S cost?
Pricing depends on group count, AV or EE configuration, voltage, and any custom options such as color or barista lighting. Contact Bean and Brew Technologies for a current quote based on your cafe's specific configuration.
What is the difference between the Linea Classic S and the Linea PB?
Both machines share dual-insulated boilers, saturated groups, and PID temperature control. The Linea PB adds a digital display, a more advanced flow meter for volumetric dosing, Auto Brew Ratio programming, and an Eco Mode standby feature, along with a mirror finish instead of the Linea Classic S's brushed stainless look.
Does the Linea Classic S need a water filter?
Yes. The Linea Classic S includes a built-in water sensor that measures conductivity and hardness. Bean and Brew Technologies tests your water on-site for a fee and handles standard filtration installs in-house, bringing in our partner, Purifi H2O, when a reverse osmosis system is needed.
