Travel Charges

How travel is calculated

Travel is measured in driving miles from our shop at 1 S Corporate Dr, Riverdale, NJ. The first 30 miles are free. Beyond that we charge $2.00 per mile, each way, starting at mile 31. Our service range is 90 driving miles; for locations farther away, please call.

Service anywhere in the five boroughs of New York City carries a $195 NYC surcharge per visit on top of mileage. It covers the extra drive time in city traffic. Tolls are estimated in the calculator at E-ZPass rates and billed at actual cost; parking is billed at cost.

Example: a café 50 driving miles away is 20 miles past the free zone. 20 mi × $2.00 × 2 ways = $80 travel.

FAQ

Common pricing questions

How much does espresso machine repair cost?

On-site service is $250 for the first hour, which is a one-hour minimum, then $200 per hour billed in 30-minute increments ($100 per half hour). A typical 90-minute on-site repair within 30 miles of our Riverdale, NJ shop is $350 in labor, plus parts and tax.

Why is there a one-hour minimum?

Every on-site call includes loading the van, driving to you and bringing the right parts and tools, whether the fix takes 5 minutes or 60. The first-hour rate covers that, so you're never charged a separate trip fee inside our 30-mile zone.

How do you calculate travel charges?

Travel is free for the first 30 driving miles from our shop in Riverdale, NJ. Beyond that it's $2.00 per mile, each way, starting at mile 31. We serve locations up to 90 driving miles from our shop; if you're farther away, please call us. For example, a location 50 miles away is billed 20 miles × $2.00 × 2 ways = $80.

Is there an extra charge for service in New York City?

Yes. Service in any of the five boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island) carries a $195 surcharge per visit, in addition to standard mileage. It covers the extra drive time in city traffic. Tolls are estimated in the calculator at E-ZPass rates and billed at actual cost; parking is billed at cost.

When is emergency service available?

Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Emergency service covers calls outside those hours, on evenings and weekends. It carries a one-time $300 emergency call surcharge, then $350 for the first hour and $300 per hour after that, billed in 30-minute increments. Travel and the NYC surcharge apply the same as on-site service.

What is the diagnostic fee?

For in-shop repairs (you drop off your equipment or we pick it up), a $125 diagnostic fee applies only if you choose not to go ahead with the recommended repair. If you approve the repair, there is no diagnostic charge. On-site and emergency calls have no separate diagnostic fee; the first-hour rate covers diagnosis.

Are parts included in the hourly rate?

No. Parts and materials are billed separately, and you'll get a parts estimate before any repair work begins.

Do you offer maintenance plans?

Yes. We offer 6-month and yearly preventive maintenance plans. See our maintenance plans page for what's included and pricing.
